"BIG ED"

Edward L Carey, 85 died unexpectedly March 26, 2015. He was born in East Orange, New Jersey on October 21, 1929.

As a young man he attended Pingry private school in Basking Ridge, NJ where he was a star baseball and basketball player. He then attended Union Junior College; a year at Colgate University before moving to Florida Southern University and continued his excellence leading the All Star team. He was known as Roy "Bones" Carey for his unique style and frame.

Edward L Carey, 85 died unexpectedly March 26, 2015. He was born in East Orange, New Jersey on October 21, 1929.

As a young man he attended Pingry private school in Basking Ridge, NJ where he was a star baseball and basketball player. He then attended Union Junior College; a year at Colgate University before moving to Florida Southern University and continued his excellence leading the All Star team. He was known as Roy "Bones" Carey for his unique style and frame.

Ed proudly served in the US Navy on an icebreaker for 8 years where he spent time traveling the seas through the Panama Canal, across the Equator traveling both North & South Poles.

Ed met the love of his live Betty on a blind date and they were happily married for 52 years. Ed started his business career with New Jersey Bell in the communications industry; Later moving to Jacksonville Florida were he became Director of Sales for BellSouth and retired after 30 years of service.

He was a true leader and mentor to the many he touched in life and a kind hearted grandfather. His love of sports was well known and he excelled at playing golf.

He is survived by his three children, Susan Grube, Steven Edward (Cindi) Carey, Jeanne C. (Jimmy) Gilbert ; grandchildren Rachel Grube ; Erin Grube Michaels; Kyle & Brian Yerdon; 5 great grandchildren - Ryland, Xenna, Kaine, Colin, & Conner.

A Memorial Service will be held at Hardage-Giddens Beaches Chapel Funeral Home (904)249-2374 located 1701 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville Beach, FL 33250 on March 31, 2015 at 4:00 pm.
